Why Columbus Drivers and Fleet Owners Choose CBS

Decades of Brake Specialization

Since 1986, brakes have been our craft, not a side service. Most shops do brakes among many other things. We've built a four-decade reputation on this one system.

Built for Commercial Vehicles

Our lot, bays, and equipment are sized for semis, diesel rigs, and trailers — not just sedans. Most general repair shops can't take heavy-duty work. We can.

Comprehensive Automotive Care

Brakes are the namesake, but we also handle oil changes, tires, alignments, suspension, and electrical for light vehicles. One trusted shop for the whole maintenance list.

Trusted Diagnostics, Clear Pricing

You'll know exactly what your vehicle needs and what it doesn't. No upsells, no surprise fees, no work you didn't authorize.

Brake Service Questions, Answered

The questions Columbus drivers and fleet operators ask us most.

How do I know when my brakes need service?

Watch for squealing or grinding noises, a pulsating brake pedal, a soft or sinking pedal, pulling to one side when you brake, longer stopping distances, or a brake warning light on the dash. Any of these signs means it's time to have your brakes inspected. Catching brake issues early is almost always cheaper than waiting.

How often should brake pads be replaced?

Most cars need new brake pads every 30,000 to 70,000 miles, but the range depends on driving habits, vehicle type, and pad quality. Heavy stop-and-go driving, towing, or hauling shortens pad life. Heavy-duty and commercial vehicles vary even more widely. We can measure your brake pad thickness and tell you exactly how much life is left.

Do you service brakes on semi-trucks and diesel rigs?

Yes. Complete Brake Service has been working on commercial and heavy-duty vehicles since 1986. We service air brake systems, slack adjusters, S-cams, drums, and disc brakes on semi-trucks, dump trucks, diesel pickups, trailers, and commercial fleets. Our shop is sized for the work — most general repair shops can't accommodate heavy-duty vehicles.

How long does a brake job take?

A standard brake pad and rotor replacement on a passenger car typically takes 1 to 2 hours. More involved jobs — caliper replacement, brake fluid flush, ABS diagnostics, or commercial vehicle work — can take longer. Schedule ahead and we'll give you a clear time estimate when you drop off.

How much does a brake job cost?

Brake service pricing depends on your vehicle, the parts needed (pads only versus pads and rotors versus full caliper service), and whether it's a passenger car or a heavy-duty vehicle. After inspection, you'll get clear, written pricing — no work happens without your approval. Cars and light trucks currently qualify for our standing offer: $50 off a brake service ($25 per axle).

Can I keep driving with squealing or grinding brakes?

You can drive briefly to get to a shop, but you shouldn't keep driving on them. Squealing usually means worn pads, and grinding means metal-on-metal contact that's actively damaging your rotors. Continuing to drive turns a pad replacement into a pad-and-rotor job, and in worst cases compromises your ability to stop safely. Bring it in soon.

Do you handle DOT brake inspections for commercial vehicles?

Yes. We perform DOT-compliant brake inspections for commercial trucks and trailers, including air brake systems and slack adjuster checks. Whether you're prepping for an annual inspection, addressing a roadside violation, or keeping a fleet compliant, we can help.
