Why Owner-Operators and Fleets Choose CBS for Semi-Truck Work

Built for Class 8 Work

Our lot has the room for full-length tractors and tractor-trailer combinations. Our bays have the height, our lifts have the capacity, and our equipment is sized for the work. Most general repair shops physically can't take semi-truck work — we're built specifically to do it.

Decades of Air Brake Experience

Brakes are our namesake — and air brake systems on Class 8 equipment have been at the core of our work since 1986. Slack adjusters, S-cams, valves, plumbing, and the diagnostics to find leaks fast.

Diagnose Before You Spend

Class 8 parts are expensive. A bad guess on a turbocharger or transmission can cost thousands. We test, scan, and isolate the actual cause — and we'll show you the readings behind the diagnosis.

Fair Pricing for Drivers Passing Through

If you're not from Columbus, you're not getting gouged because of it. The price for the same work is the same price whether you live next door or you're hauling a load to Detroit.

Semi-Truck Repair Questions, Answered

The questions Columbus-area and passing-through truckers ask us most.

Do you work on all major semi-truck makes?

Yes. We service the full range of Class 8 tractors — Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, International, and the other major commercial makes. The mechanical work is similar across platforms; the differences are in computer systems and OE-specific procedures, which our equipment and experience handle.

How fast can you get my semi in if I'm broken down?

It depends on the day, but for active commercial trucks and active breakdowns we do our best to fit work in same-day or next-day. Call (614) 221-4888 — we'll give you a real answer about timing rather than a placeholder. Showing up unannounced with a rig that won't move, we'll find a way to look at it.

Do you do DOT inspections on semis and trailers?

Yes. We perform DOT-compliant annual inspections on tractors and trailers — air brake systems, slack adjusters, lighting, suspension, tires, and the full inspection requirements. If we find issues during the inspection, we can address most of them in the same visit when scheduling allows. You leave with the paperwork and a compliant rig.

Can you do air brake repairs on Class 8 trucks?

Yes — and air brake work is one of our core services. We diagnose air leaks, replace slack adjusters and S-cams, repair valves and plumbing, replace drums and shoes, and bring brake systems back into spec. If you're failing a brake adjustment check, we can find the cause quickly.

What if I'm just passing through Columbus and need work done?

We work with passing-through truckers regularly. Our shop is accessible from I-70 and I-71, and we understand that drivers on a route need to get back on a route. Schedule ahead if you can — even a few hours of notice helps us plan parts and bay time. If something fails on the road and you need an immediate look, call us — we'll do what we can.

Do you handle preventive maintenance for owner-operators?

Yes. PM scheduling for owner-operators and small fleets is some of the most valuable work we do. Oil and fluid services, brake checks, air system inspections, tire and wheel service, and DOT inspections — built around your route schedule and how your tractor actually gets used. The cheapest hour your rig spends in a shop is a scheduled one.

Can you fix an out-of-service violation today?

Often, yes — depending on the violation and parts availability. Bring the inspection report so we can see exactly what's flagged. Common violations like brake adjustment, lighting failures, and tire issues can usually be addressed quickly. More involved repairs may need a scheduled return visit. Either way, we'll get you the documentation you need to clear the violation properly.
